The Mookerheide PLASMOLEN
Tip of Gaby and William, because:
...walking on the Mookerheide is so beautiful, so quiet, so relaxing. You’re among the Scottish Highlanders, with a phenomenal view of the church of Cuijk and its two towers and far beyond. When the heath is in full bloom, you can enjoy the purple splendour. It’s as if an enormous purple blanket has been draped across the heath. William and his cousin Richard (owner of restaurant 't Zwaantje) go for a walk through the Mookerheide almost every week. Simply leaving the daily stresses behind for a while and taking the time for reflection. This means they can give you great tips for beautiful routes! The location of this area of natural beauty on the foothill of the Nijmegen lateral moraine allows for considerable differences in height, creating stunning panoramic views of the Maas in some places. It’s a unique landscape. Scientists agreed and so they mapped out two geo paths (www.geopaden.nl) for enthusiasts. Armed with a route description containing geological information, and the information panels along the route, you will learn more about the typical geological characteristics of this landscape.
