How did Vacation at Meeussen come about ...

In 1967 our parents (in law) built their first cottage behind their house on the Bisselt, with the Mookerheide as their 'backyard'. A few years later they built their second cottage, after which park Schuttersoord came into being; 5 cottages at the edge of the woods with - anno now - also a number of Buiten Hotel rooms (next to and with Herberg Restaurant 't Zwaantje). When they came up with the proposal to build a little park in Plasmolen at the end of 1997, we didn't think long. In early 1998, together with our (in-law) parents, we bought a beautiful plot between the meadows in Plasmolen, suitable for the construction of 20 vacation homes.

Because of our young age - we were 25 and 23 - we were not yet hindered by doubts and we saw for ourselves as a duo (William as a maintenance painter and Gaby shortly before graduated in Tourism) a great opportunity to say YES to this idea. A good decision that we never regretted. The combination turned out well: that of the first 5 years working together with mom and dad in the (re)construction phase. And later the combo of living and working in one, allowing our 3 daughters to grow up in a beautiful place.
